Actually, a good reason to have a look at that particular RS is that it
is a heroic individual. While you mightn't travel to the Gulf of
Carpentaria to see a bloke walking along a road, you might do so to see
someone like Jon Muir completing a solo crossing of the continent [9.30
ABC tonight].
You might see flocks of the species in Kazakhstan, but they won't have
that star quality ...

these birds for real in Central Asia. Out on the steppe in Kazakhstan
and Kyrgyzstan in 2000 I recall seeing thousands of the blighters -
big wheeling flocks reminiscent of Galahs with the alternating
pink/dark flashes of colour. It looks like this local wanderer is
going to be a bit elusive on its own in such a big landscape - well
done to those who found it in the first place.
