This is truly wonder filled news that you give out cobber, and something to go with your "Twitch-a-fun" news ...

 

This years winning team can have a brass name- tag, duly inscribed in the winning team's name, added to one of the local adopted and already in use "ER" nest boxes ... I think it would be nice to see the home of Mr. and Mrs. "ER" renamed .... the lesser spotted hasher dashers home, don't you think? or perhaps the winners would like to come up with a name of their own?

Hi birders,

Once again it's time to start thinking about the Birds Australia Victorian annual Twitchathon. Currently there are two events scheduled for this years race, although there is the possibility of a third (see email on 'The Big Sit').

* The 24 hour Race, which starts at 4:00pm Saturday 6 November 2004 and end at 4:00pm Sunday 7 November 2004 at Birds Australia's Head Office at 415 Riversdale Road, East Hawthorn.

* The 8 hour Race, which starts at 8:00am Sunday 7 November and
finishes at 4:00pm Sunday 7 November at Birds Australia's Head Office
at 415 Riversdale Road, East Hawthorn.

First run in 1984 and won with a total of 182 birds by S Bennett, M
Considine, J Davies, R Loyn, C Silveira, the Victorian Twitchathon is
a bird race conducted by Birds Australia each year as a fund raising
event for bird research and conservation. Teams of birders develop a
route through the bush and countryside, recording all bird species seen
or heard. Importantly each team seeks sponsorship on basis of the
number of bird species logged during a fixed 24-hour period.

To give you a feel of race conditions in the Twitchathon some of the
rules for the event include: teams must stay within one Australian state or territory; team members must always be within natural voice contact of each other; species can be added to a team list as seen or heard, but each addition must be verified by a majority of team members; tape playback or use of mechanical squeakers to attract birds are not permitted; there should be no assistance from people outside the team during the event is permitted, although a non-birding, non-participating driver is permitted.
