Dear All
being one of the fortunate ones to have seen the duck late on
Friday, I along with a few others, missed it yesterday afternoon.
Almost the same weather conditions as there was on Friday but
alas, no second sighting.

While not claiming the Baer's Pochard as yet, the possibility of
hybridisation seems remote, to me, as the duck only had one
characteristic of the proposed parent, the chestnut teal, the green
sheen on the head. Having bred birds for over 20 years in captivity,
whenever a hybrid occurs it is usually a combination of traits of both
parents and not just one eg rosellas, pheasants etc. So I am giving
little credence to the hybrid theory at the moment, but will happily
accept the juries decision when it is in.
