Hi again,

thanks everybody for helpful suggestions and especially to Allan for offering
me a copy of "Field Guide to the Birds of Japan" by Wild Bird Society of
Japan. My trip to Japan is mainly for business and I am happy to get there
with a field guide already at hand. I just hope to pick up some new species
on the way.
The photographic guides are more recent and I am very curious to find out if
these photographic guides are really useful for identification. I have never
seen a photographic guide before - well, I cannot say that for every
continent but at least for Europe and Australia - which could compete with a
field guide with good drawings. But may be these are indeed better and if I
find some time while in Japan I will certainly have a look at them in some
bookstore.

Thanks again,
Jesko
