It is, I believe, in print in a Japanese version and it is a newer edition.
This gives illustrations, and a range map which should be quite useful. I
have a Chinese guide to Taiwan and I managed to use it quite well even
though I don't speak or read a word of Chinese. Try a book shop (Hon-ya) and
see what you can find.
Best regards
Tim Murphy

Subject: Field guides Japan
Hi,
I am looking for a field guide to Japan. Does anybody know if there is a
more
recent one than the "Field Guide to the Birds of Japan" by Wild Bird Society
of Japan from '82? This book seems to be out of print and rather difficult
to
get. I will travel to Japan in two weeks time therefore it would be
fantastic
if somebody knows an onlineshop or a shop in Sydney where I can get such a
field guide.
Thanks
Jesko
