Hi Carol, and Colin, and anyone else interested. I have seen Chestnut Quail-thrush eating ants so it's not too hard to suggest that the Spotted do it. The other alternative is that the birds were stealing food from the ants. My chooks do this a fair bit, especially where the meat ants have their trails. They just stand by the 'highway' and pick off what they want.
