An old apiarist friend told me some years ago that Bumblebees will bite into
the nectary of tubular flowers to gain access to the nectar, which they are
otherwise unable to do. This poses a threat to the pollination and
subsequent survival of these plants which are such an important nectar
resource for the Honeyeaters. Duncan Fraser.
