Just got back from the WTP - I think the only birder there today! Very
windy. No Hardhead and I couldn't find Blue-bill either - and not many
Freckled. But still lots of Stint, a few Sharpies, a couple of Black-tailed
Godwit, Double-banded Plover, Black-fronted Dotterel, Marsh Sandpiper and
Greenshank. And enormous numbers of Little Black Cormorants just off the
Beach Rd jetty - must have been several hundred!

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] No Hardheads at WTP

Hello Frank and all
I have been out and about extensively in SE Queensland over the past few
weeks and there are almost no Hardheads around here either. in the latter
half of last year there were thousands of them and they were in practically
every pond around the place. I suspect that seen the good rains and
floods
inland, they have all headed there. About 12 years ago I was involved in
some aerial surveys at what is now Currawinya NP and there were from memory
about 30000 Hardheads there at the time.
Cheers
Roy
