Hi everyone
There have been some fascinating discussions recently. One thing I'm
sure that someone has raised, but I can't remember who or when, is the
issue of reliability of online content.
The plover at Thornside near Brisbane is a good example - a number of
contributors posted lists of sites that had images of various
charadridae. Some of the sites - such as ABID - are as close as we
can get to peer reviewed journals, and should be reliable when they
claim an image is of this or that species. But we all know that even
field guides get this wrong at times! I had far less confidence in
some of the sites that Google found for my various plover searches -
in fact, I think you could find erroneously labelled images for just
about any species you searched for (although I suppose it's hard to
confuse an emu with anything else!)
Caveat Spectatorum!!
