Re. yellow iris and night feeding.  I am not sure at this stage that it does but a number of owls, frogmouths and the two stone-curlews all have yellow irises and are nocturnal.  The Tyto owls have dark irises but they rely mostly on their hearing for locating prey.  Don't cats usually have yellow irises?
