Please let Tim Murphy know that the haunting lonely call is usually represented by the call of the Curlew, as it's name implies it is like a long drawn out Cccuuurrrllleeeeww, and cadences from high to low and back up again, whereas the Lapwing is a mournful Peeaawwit short and sweet down up down up cadence.
Hopefully that will answer his query!
