Here at Katoomba in the NSW Blue Mountains, the Pied Currawongs have started forming their post-breeding flocks, with 17 in a tree in my garden yesterday making a huge din. Interestingly, this season I saw more dependent young Channel-billed Cuckoos than dependent young currawongs. In my neighbourhood alone there were at least 3 young Channel-bills compared to only one young Pied Currawong that I saw. I couldn't help but feel sorry for one adult bird last week who was kept busy feeding two huge cuckoo fledglings. Their mournful begging calls have been a constant presence here this summer. cheers Carol Birding-Aus is on the Web at www.shc.melb.catholic.edu.au/home/birding/index.html To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe birding-aus" (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
