The delights of Christmas

Some of the things I enjoyed over the Christmas period,
Standing thre metres away from a wattle watching two White-browed
Scrubwrens stuffing caterpillars into a cuckoo chick, while two branches
above, a pair of Grey Fantails were feeding their two fluffy youngsters.
Sitting in the shade by the river while Rainbow Bee-eaters popped in and
out of their tunnels on the opposite bank,
Standing watering the garden with two Grey Fans bathing quite unafraid
and trusting in the spray, and this morning watching the newly returned
Yellow-rumped Thornbills feeding young in a garden bed while I worked
nearby.
Typing this while our resident female Rufous Whistler sits on the window
sill looking in at me, and her mate pours out his song from his perch
just above. Perhaps not the thrill of the twitch, but I'm not
complaining. Duncan Fraser, Maffra Vic.
