Hi Tim, Can not help with your area, but I have lived in outer Western Sydney and the Lower Blue Mountains for the past 30 years since arriving from the UK, so I know what a European Blackbird looks like. Until 1999 I had never seen a single example, however when we moved in to this house, I spotted one in the back yard. Now, when walking alongside the Nepean River, I can see around 50 every day, they seem to have exploded in this area in the past 5 years or so.
