Hmmm, it begs the question why they are called "magpie-larks" rather
than "pied larks". Using the same logic, you could refer to pied
currawongs as magpie-crows, pied butcherbirds as little-magpies, and
willie wagtails as magpie fantails.
Actually, now that I think of it, you could probably call willie
wagtails "colliwobbles".

'Murray Magpies' are really what Victorians call Mudlarks. The
ignorant
folk in NSW call them Peewees, and the birdbooks name them 'Australian
Magpie-larks.' (actually according to the DNA-smiths they are aberrant
monarch-flycatchers.)
