They have been observed with Hardheads and Grey Teal but not showing any behavioural affinity ( association) with their neighbours. They were just in the same vicinity.

I couldn't see much on the photo to make a decision on - but here's a left-field alternative.  Could they be Sunda Teal or another SE Asian taxon?  The pic that I looked at today didn't have the huge bump on the forehead that I recall from Sunda Teal in Java, but .......
