Hi Jill and JoThere are still some forest kingfishers hanging around in Noosa shire at the moment - not many, mind you. The solution to the mystery must lie elsewhere. Andrew wrote: Hi Jo, Forest Kingfishers usually leave our area (hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, Qld) during the winter, and they are absent as usual this year - my point being that they are not staying here in this milder than usual winter. Can't comment on numbers seen last summer. I haven't been paying enough attention.
