Hi Vin (and others)

What a way to start off your birding-aus contributions! Welcome to birding-aus, and I hope we can look forward to more great reports like this one.
My first impression was PhotoShop Gull!! Just looks like a Silver Gull
that's had a bit of Image ... Adjust ... Selective Color done to it.
But look at those wingtips! I don't know what the gull is, but my
initial thoughts are Common Gull or Mew (Short-billed). But I think
both of these have white in the primaries, and the bird in your photo
doesn't appear to have any.
The bill tip might hold some clues - Californian? It's black and red
on the lower mandible I think.
Mike Carter is not on this list at the moment so somebody might like to
show him these photos.
Cheers

Russell

Hi,

I am fairly new to birding and to this mailing list, although
I have been lurking around for a while here.

Anyway, on Saturday, I noticed what seemed to be an out
of place seagull at Tooradin, Victoria. It had yellow
legs and bill, and stood out from the 50 or so others
which were red or blackish. Couldnt find anything in the
books I had, so just wondering if this was an abberant
form or something else? Are these things common?

I have put up a page with this and a few other birds that I currently cant properly identify at http://yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au/~vhl/unidentified.html
Thanks.
Vin
