Brian Everingham's observations of a male Osprey
mating with two females at Bongil Bongil is very interesting. In over
twenty years observation of the species I have not recorded this
behaviour. It is discussed in Alan Poole's monograph 'Ospreys - a
natural and unnatural history' on page 97. Secondary females rarely
hatched eggs as they had to hunt for themselves.
It would be good if someone could support Brian's
observations by confirming that both nests were indeed those of
Ospreys.
