Hi everyone!
I focussed my binocs on movement in a dense clump
of grey mistletoe (one of many) in a large black wattle. I was astonished to see
a male Scarlet Honeyeater. I observed it feeding from the flowers of several
clumps as it called quietly and regularly for about 5 minutes. I rushed
back to the house to get my husband to come to confirm my sighting. I then
decided that I might need more evidence so went for the video camera but the
bird had moved off by the time I returned. Sat waiting to see if it would
return and watched several Fuscous, Yellow-faced, White-naped Honeyeaters
and Eastern Spinebills feeding from the mistletoe flowers. While the
Scarlet was present there had only been two Spinebills in the tree. I will
return tomorrow at the same time just in case it is there!
By the way, while I was waiting for the
Scarlet to come back a pair of Speckled Warblers flew in to feed under the
wattle then through the grass below the bank of the dam - a real
bonus.
Glenise.
