Hi All,
In response to John Harris's recent message, my highest count for the Family Anatidae was recently (18 April 03) at Herdsman Lake in metro Perth when i got 13. They were Black Swan, Blue-billed, Musk, Australian Wood, Pink-eared, Freckled, Pacific Black and Domestic Ducks, Grey Teal, Chestnut Teal, Australian Shelduck, Hardhead and Australasian Shoveler. Not bad considering Herdsman would be only about 10 kms from the Perth CBD.
The highlights were the Freckled Duck and the Chestnut Teal, as both these species are uncommon around Perth. As a footnote i went to Bibra Lake today (12 May 03) and recorded 5 Freckled Ducks, the first time i have seen this duck at this lake, a Buff-banded Rail and a Greenshank.
Regards Wynton Maddeford
