Looking at the Atlas of Australian Birds you'd think so, but there
were a few sightings from the NSW South Coast reported this summer on
birding-aus.  2 from near Nowra, one from Mollymook and one from Morton.

I also had great views of one on several days in January in Broulee which
is south of Batemans Bay.  Neighbours there feed Rainbow Lorikeets and
other parrots. Several times in multi-species mid-afternoon alarm calls
brought me outside in time to see a Square-tail cruise through.
