Hi all,

During a pelagic out of Whitianga, New Zealand on 25 January 2003 we sighted a strange storm-petrel.  At first this bird was thought to be a black-bellied storm-petrel, but further investigation has led us to other possibilities, including the potential of the bird being Oceanites maorianus, the New Zealand storm-petrel.  One small problem………. this species (thought to be closely related to Wilson’s SP) is supposed to be extinct.

I have posted info and all photos taken of this bird on my website at the following URL –

We would be grateful for any feedback/thoughts from seabird buffs.

Regards

Brent
