Hi everyone,

Went to Phillip Island over the weekend (non-birding) but did manage to sneak in about 3 hours birding on Saturday.

Saw many of the island's specialties including Cape Barren Geese (at a very dry Swan Lake); Kelp Gull, Sooty and Pied Oystercatcher, Little Penguin (at The Nobbies which was very quiet) and Eastern Curlew and Bar-tailed Godwit (at Observation Pt).

The Oswin Roberts bushland reserve had some good birds, especially Satin Flycatcher, Crescent H/E and Brush Bronzewing.

There were more W/T Needletails than I have ever seen (everywhere over the island in flocks of 10-30). At one stage, one went screaming past me about 3 metres away - the noise (a loud whoosh) is incredible. And driving along the hwy, one was flying 20 or so metres in front of the car - I was going 100kmh and not gaining on it - very fast birds!

All up about 65spp,

Cheers,
Greg
