Hi All,
Below is a list of all birds and numbers seen on the Caloundra sandbanks on
Thursday, 23rd January, 2003 . Our numbers are about 10,000 down on the
previous week. Never before have we had such a high number of White-winged
Black Terns, suggesting to me that a fair amount of movement is taking
place. It is also possible that we missed birds in bad viewing conditions,
but that assumes that birds arrived further away than is normally the case.

Total 17700
Still no sign of breeding plumage in Common Terns, although a few
individuals have already replaced all their outer primaries. A couple of
White-wings were showing the beginnings of change to breeding plumage.
Littles are further advanced, with many showing some yellow on the bill, and
a couple in almost full breeding plumage (just an odd white feather still
in the cap). Still no sign of Littles from the southern breeding population.
