All, had some great birding down at Comerong Is
this morning. Managed to get in and out without needing to battle with the
holiday traffic!
When I arrived (08:00) it was just
below high tide and when I left high tide was rapidly going out (12:00)- it
was probably close to half way between high and low tide with much sand exposed
at Shoalhaven Heads.
Some great waders here this morning with
immpressive counts of 106 Pacific Golden Plover, with the
highlight being a single Grey Plover seen flying and landing on
the lagoon to the south of the main estuary.
GREY PLOVER (1)
Pacific Golden Plover (106)
Lesser SandPlover (1 Immature)
Bar-Tailed Godwit (240+)
Red-Necked Stint (120+)
Sharp-Tailed Sandpiper (10)
Red-Capped Plover (37)
Eastern Curlew (14)
Pied Oystercatcher (2)
In addition to the waders, saw a large numbers of
Shearwaters passing offshore (Short-Tailed and Wedge-Tailed), with some just
behind the surf line and these were all Short-Tailed Shearwater
with 2 Sooty Shearwater seen whilst I was there. In addition
there was a raft of about 60 Gannets close offshore. Another
good bird this morning was a single White-Throated
Needletail.
In addition did not see the Canada Goose or any
Black Swans (except 2 overhead) this morning.
Cheers
Simon.
