I went to Walka Water Works, Maitland, NSW this morning to look for the
Little Bittern reported yesterday by Dick Jenkin. After an hour of
delightful birding, (including in one binocular field at 50 metres 2
freckeled duck, 12 pink-eared duck, 2 black swans, 2 royal spoonbils, 2
masked lapwings, 6 coots and a buff banded rail) I left. On the way out
I met Grant Brossie who had found the Little Bittern. It was a male
sitting on a horozontal reed stem at the waters edge in full sun. A
magnificant sight!
