Hi Birding-aussers, about the same time last year I think, a pair of House Crows were reported on the Gold Coast. I asked Darrell Price to check them out, he found them and reported back that they were being fed by Torresian Crows - obviously baby Torresian Crows being fed by adults.

My resident pair of Torresians have just introduced their 2 young to the balcony, one about a week before the other, must fledge at different times. This morning, in the early morning sun I noticed a few points of interest.
a). Noticeably smaller than adults.
b). Smaller bill than adults - close up, fleshy gape noticeable, with paler gape patch.
c). Nape to upper mantle, greyish/buffish brown.
d). Call higher pitched.
e). Dark iris, young Torresians retain this for some period of time.

I wonder about some of the recent sightings of House Crow at this time of year. Has anyone else noticed this in this species, how about our other Corvids. None of our Field Guides that I have consulted point this out! Just thought I'd bring this to your attention, there is a possibility that someone seeing recently fledged Torresian Crows without the adults present might get confused. Cheers - Paul Walbridge.
