A few years ago I was in the Fitzroy Gardens on the
eastern edge of the city of Melbourne, admiring a small pond and fountain on the
Clarendon Street boundary, just opposite the Mercy Hospital. What a lovely bird
sculpture I thought, until it moved and revealed itself to be a Nankeen Night
Heron, perched about 2m up. fully exposed to the sun, passers-by and
traffic.
