Today eating lunch at the Waurn Ponds Campus of Deakin University, a 'flock' of 33 masked lapwings arrived at the edge of the lake. Is it common for masked lapwings to travel or group together in flocks of this number for any reason? I dont think i've seen them in bigger groups than pairs and with young. Do these birds have family reunions for Chinese New year or something? Peter P.s. the Buff Banded Rail was also seen on campus.
