In response to a phone call about Fork-tailed Swifts from Alan Morris on Saturday 18/1, my son Ian and myself went to Crackneck Lookout in Bateau Bay Central Coast NSW. There we observed about 60+ Fork-tailed Swifts flying at eye level over the ocean.

About 6pm, about 50+ were observed at my place at Ourimbah (about 15 km as the swift flies from Bateau Bay). At least two White-throated Needletails were also seen in the flock. At 7.30 pm we drove the 10km along the Pacific highway into Gosford where another 50+ Swifts/WTN were seen with Swifts outnumbering WTN by a substantial margin.

While I'm sure Alan Morris will expand on his original sighting, I understand this is the first record for Fork-tailed Swifts on the Central Coast.
