I personally would prefer there not to be a duck shooting season. However, if the general population pressures the politicians to allow duck shooting, then I think that the Western Australian compromise is reasonable.

In Western Australia, duck shooting is only allowed on private property with the permission of the owner. There are some restrictions to the species, but the above rule generally means that only Pacific Black Duck, Grey Teal, Australian Shelduck and Australian Wood Duck are targetted. All these species are very common.

This allows farmers to take a few ducks for their table, and to allow people they know to take some ducks. It makes it harder for the general person in the city to just go out and shoot.

You also need to educate duck shooters that ducks spend half their time on sewage ponds! :-)
