Not really a car park but the surrounds of a
microwave tower. Before getting out of the car I saw Atherton
Scrubwren,
Brown Pigeon, Superb Fruit Dove ( female, feeding
on the seeds of a small fruited sedge), Grey Goshawk (male, grey phase) and
Yellow-eyed Cuckoo-shrike.
Does the Superb Fruit-Dove have a gizzard able to
deal with such hard seeds? I have never seen them eating these
before.
On getting out of the car I saw a Wedge-tailed
Eagle, Yellow-throated Scrubwren, Little Cuckoo-shrike, Red-browed Finch and
female Victoria's Riflebird. On my walk down the hill added Bridled Honeyeater,
Lewins H'e., Scarlet H'e., Brown Gerygone, Golden Bowerbird, Sulphur-crested
Cockatoo, Topknot Pigeon, Emerald Dove, Bower's Shrike-thrush and Ground
Thrush.
The return walk did not produce any further species
but did see a Mountain Thornbill on the drive out.
At Wondecla located south of Herberton I saw a
Jacky Winter which is a rather uncommon bird here at the best of times,
especially in summer.
