Just to endorse Tim's comments on Bear Gully/Walkerville, I too camped there
last year. Further up the hill (on the main road to Bear Gully) there is
some excellent heath habitat where I saw many families of Southern Emu-wren,
several Beautiful Firetail, heaps of Blue-winged Parrots and Olive Whistler.
Not only does this spot have a large no. of spp. but also some of Victoria's
less common birds. 
If snakes are your passion, this is the spot! We saw Brown, Tiger and
Red-bellied Black - all in a few days!
