Just took the dog down to the Yarra/Merri confluence at Abbotsford hoping to hear one of the Olive-backed Orioles reported by Greg Oakley and Tim Dolby for the lower Yarra. No luck, but I did hear my first Sacred Kingfisher of the season  - not particularly early, as I have previously recorded them as early as 10th October.

Have never managed to hear Orioles in the Clifton Hill/Abbotsford part of Merri Creek, though can't see why they wouldn't turn up. My bird list for this part of the creek still stands at 96 sp.

Noisiest and best singer around here at the moment - Grey Shrike-thrush, heard from bed every morning, with at least four calling in the immediate vicinity for the last several weeks.

Regards to all
Neville
