I would appreciate any comments re a heavily streaked pipit I saw in a
grassy paddock near Little River, Victoria today. In most respects
it had the general appearance and jizz of a usual Australasian/Richard's
Pipit, but it had dramatic bold streaking on the breast, more typical of
illustrations of Red-throated Pipit (not that I'm suggesting that there
is any possibility of this), and a more yellowish cast to the brow, and
to a lesser extent the face. Having not previously seen such a
boldly-streaked Australasian/Richard's Pipit I can only assume that this
was a particularly strongly marked immature. (Perhaps I should add
that I am quite sure that it was not a Skylark, Singing Bushlark or
Songlark.) Comments welcomed. Richard ********************** |
