Hello Birding-Ausers,

The change in seasons has produced some interesting observations over my
backyard in Woody Point, South East Queensland.

Yesterday, 8/9/02, the first Restless Flycatcher for several years made a
fleeting visit.
Same day, a lone Torresian Crow harassed a solitary Collared Sparrowhawk from
the western horizon to the eastern horizon.
The Silvereyes have arrived in numbers and are being very vocal.
The Spangled Drongos are still in the area although numbers were down this
winter compared to last year.

Most frustrating of all, there is a bird making a call reminiscent of a
Whistling Kite's call.
The local Common Starlings have a 'Whistling Kite' call in their repertoire but
this is a different version and I believe it is coming from a different bird.
At this stage I suspect, of all birds, a Brown Honeyeater!!

Away from my backyard:
A visit to Tom Tarrant's woodswallow site at Samsonvale, SE Qld, produced a
co-operative pair of Striped Honeyeaters building a nest.
They allowed me to take some shots with my digital camera and a 2 minute video
of their efforts.

Some other birds seen in that location were:
Black Swan
Hardhead
Pacific Black duck
Great Crested Grebe
Black-shouldered Kite
Whistling Kite
Spotted Harrier
Eurasian Coot
Gull-billed Tern
Bar-shouldered Dove
Rainbow Lorikeet
? Fairy-wren (heard)
Striated Pardalote
Striped Honeyeater
Lewin's Honeyeater
Brown Honeyeater
Rufous Whistler
White-breasted Woodswallow
Pied Butcherbird
Australian Magpie

There were more but I wasn't really looking.......

Cheers,
Bob Inglis
