Dick,
Boondall Wetlands are good but there are better places to bird and to find Mangrove Honeyeater and Collared Kingfisher. I'd suggest Tinchi Tamba Wetlands, enter via Wyampa Rd. ,go to day picnic area on Pine River and take walk to the right(downstream) along/amongst mangroves.
However you don't need to leave the Redcliffe Peninsula.Try the following spots:
  1. Mangroves at end of Michel Rd Scarborough
  2. Redcliffe Aerodrome. Walk on levee bank on northern side of field, it abuts the mangroves.Near the beginning of the levee there is a channel heading to Deception Bay, only 100 metres, traversable at low tide. I've also seen Common Sandpiper working the edges of this channel.
 3. Hays Inlet, Clontarf.Park at end of Duffield Road, head south past gun club (remember to duck!), keep sewerage treatment ponds (not accesible) on left, locate large outflow pipe leading to Hays Inlet, walk to endof pipe on pipe through mangroves (holding nose).

           Good luck,
                         Russ Lamb, Maleny,SEQ
