Hi All.
Sea-watching from Soldier's Pt. on the Central
Coast today (24/8) 9.30-12.30 + 1.30-2.30 finally saw the sort of seabird
I've been looking for these past 2 or 3 years: a SOUTHERN FULMAR.
The bird first appeared at about 10am and I watched
it for several minutes. Strikingly different to any other seabird I'd seen;
large, all pale bird with distinctive wing tip pattern. Beautiful!
The same bird (presumably) returned twice more over
the next hour. A great tick.
Other good birds seen today were:
Giant Petrels 4
Shy Albatross 15. These have been the predominant
Albatross the last few weeks.
Wandering Albatross 1
Black-browed Albatross 4
Yellow-nosed Albatross 1
Great (Antarctic/Brown) Skua 1
Wedge-tailed SW many 100's perhaps
1000's.
Fluttering SW 100's
Huttons SW dozens
Prions ~15
Eastern Curlew 2 Migrating south I
suppose.
Gannets lots
White-fronted Terns a few.
Well worth the few hours.
Bye for now.
