The Cotton Pygmy-Goose was still there at 2.30 P.M. Sunday.
Also following on from the Regent Honeyeaters mentioned by Alan Morris in an
earlier E-mail, I met with Alan Richardson and some other birders yesterday
afternoon at Morisset (southern end of Lake Macquarie on the central coast
NSW ) and we witnessed around 50 Regents grouping together before going off
to roost. Many were sitting in a dead tree and easily visible, flying out
occasionally in perhaps a display flight or hawking for insects? Looking in
the tops of trees with leaves, groups of up to eight were seen. A group of
about 25 flew through as well so there could have been more than 50. We
stood in the one spot as well so there could well have been more not far
away. The bush seemed to be alive with their calls.
At one stage I had 16 in the one binocular view, fabulous!! Several Little
Lorikeets around as well. Also Fuscous Honeyeaters amongst others including,
Yellow-faced, White-naped,White cheeked, Noisy Friabirds and a Crested
Shriketit. Dusky Woodswallows also.
