Having read a lot of stuff about swift parrots and their movements and
feeding around Sydney and other posts about Bell Miners a thought struck
me. BellMiners are reported to be very aggresive, excluding all other
birds and to farm Lerp, which can lead to die back. Reports appear to
indicate that swift parrots are able to ignore them and feed on the lerp
they have been protecting. I am wondering if Swift Parrots are one of
the factors that balanced out the activities of the Bell Miners. Now
that they are few in number, the Bell Miners lerp farming activities go
(more) unchecked.
Does anyone know what exactly Bell Miners do when they "farm" lerp?
Presumably other birds eat the lerp, bug, sugary scale and all??
