Based
on current visitor numbers, Birdline Victoria gets more than 10 000 visitors to
the website per year! It is really satisfying that all these sightings are
being passed on to 100s of birders right around the state (country and world for
that matter), who are ticking and watching to their hearts content. There
are, however still some sightings that get reported to the BOCA that don't seem
to make it to the site, which is a pity as I don't have easy access to their
publications. So if you know of a sighting by someone from BOCA why not
phone it through on 9882 2390 or report it online at Birdline

Sightings
23 June
A Black-faced Cormorant was seen at Mornington harbour,
thanks Peter Lansley.
22 June
5 winter plumaged White-winged Black Terns were seen at the
T-section lagoons at the Werribee Sewage Farm, thanks Peter Lansley.
18 June
A Southern Boobook was seen in the Peppercorns at the
western end of Bowen Street, Richmond (Melways 2G H4), about 1.7 km east of the
nearest point of the Melbourne CBD, thanks Paul Peake.
17 June
An Azure Kingfisher was seen sitting in dead Fennel(?) bush
beside Merri Creek at the junction of the Merri Creek and the Yarra River.
Easily seen from city side of junction and has been seen four times in past two
weeks, thanks Alan Clarke.
17 June
A Powerful Owl was seen sitting approx 5m up a wattle tree
with Brushtail Possum in claws, beside the Yarra River at Banyule
Wetlands. It is the third time the bird has been seen in the past few
weeks in same tree (previously reported by Gina Hopkins) and also reported in
nearby street on another occasion, thanks Alan Clarke.
16 June
3 Australasian Bitterns were seen on the regular survey on
the south side of the Edithvale Wetlands by Mike Carter.
15 June
At the Werribee Treatment Plant the Freckled Ducks were
seen on Lake Borrie, from Beach Road and lots of Banded Stilts mostly in
adult plumage, were highlights, thanks Jack Krohn.
10 June
A Double-banded Plover was seen at the Kerang Sewerage
Ponds, thanks Greg Oakley.
9 June
Approx 15-20 Diamond Firetails feeding with Peaceful
Doves and Red-rumped parrots about 20kms East of Koondrook on
the Murray River, thanks Greg Oakley.
9 June
A Spotted Quail-thrush was seen in forest just north of
Newstead in central Victoria, thanks John Alexander.
Updates
The four
Brolga were still present at Reedy Lake, Lake Connewarre (Lake Moolap Rd
entrance) on the 9th of June, thanks Tim Dolby.
At Lake Lorne
the number of Freckled Duck has increased from 30 to approximately 100
birds! On the 9th of June they were
near the main road and were very easy to see, thanks Time Dolby
