A Grey Heron was reported at the mouth of the Chapman River in Geraldton on
Saturday (22nd June) afternoon. It was seen with a Great Egret roosting in
a tree beside the river.
The observer was Brice Wells (former warden of Broome Bird
Observatory). He is familiar with the species from Malaysia. He observed
it at distances from 70 metres to 25 metres. He didn't have a camera but
he took detailed notes. The bird was still there when he left at dusk
(5:30pm). As far as I am aware, noone has looked for the bird since.
Could this be the bird seen in Busselton a month ago? Maybe heading back
north? The Busselton bird moved on the day it was first seen.
