I do not claim to be an expert on Waders, but there were approx. 60
Bar-tailed and Black-tailed Godwits at Inskip Point, Qld, today. On the
beach just where the Fraser Island Ferry leaves. About a dozen were in
partial breeding plumage. In the rain and wind I could quite clearly see
('scope at no more than 40 metres) there was one bird which was a bit
smaller, in 2/3 breeding plumage, some barring on the flanks and with a
slightly shorter,
stouter, straight and completely black bill. Everything I can find points
to Asian
Dowitcher. I will try again tomorrow morning - hopefully in less rain and
wind.

The same beach had dozens of Red-capped and Double-banded Plovers, several
in breeding plumage. Grey-tailed Tattler, Curlew and Terek Sandpipers.
Common, Little and Gull-billed Terns, Pelicans, Little Pied Cormorants and
Silver Gulls.
