Thanks to Trevor Ford's finding and subsequent posting of the status of
the Laughing Gull at Bribie Island, Margaret and Greville Reidy and I
decided to head up to Qld from Sydney. Leaving at 1.00 pm Friday we
arrived at the site at 12.45pm Saturday and within 5 minutes had good
close views of the gull.

Not being satisfied with one new bird, however, we continued on up to
Point Inskip off Fraser Island to look for the Black Breasted Button
Quail as posted by David Taylor last week. Despite several false alarms
(Brown Quail) we were beginning to think we might dip on them, but a
brief glimpse of a small quail appeared to be all that we would see.
Next morning though was a different story. After one and a half hours
searching (there were platelets everywhere) we saw three BBBQs and
rather than retreating rapidly into the undergrowth they actually came
towards us feeding and making more platelets in front of us at a
distance of two metres. The three birds were all male. If only some of
those other Button Quail would do this. We could have stayed as long as
we wanted looking at them, but we had to get back to Sydney.

The BBBQs were seen about 20 metres beyond the end of the bitumen on the
left of the track to the ferry.

Special thanks to Trevor Ford for his posting and updating of the status
of the Laughing Gull and David Taylor for his help in finding the BBBQs.
