Laughing Gull and Wandering Tattler

               Damian Baxter, Phil Hansbro and I recently returned (Sat P.M.)from a sojourn north from Newcastle to Bribie Island to view the Laughing Gull.  We arrived just after dawn to find the bird about 200m east of  the jetty flying with a flock of about 50 Silver Gulls.  There is a sand spit about 500m east of the jetty and it would appear that this may be its nightly roosting area, as it was there at dawn.  I would suggest that the best time to see it would at dawn on this sand spit.  The bird flew around till about 7.30am before departing west over the bridge, on its own, and out of sight.  In total we watched the bird for about half an hour.

About 8am we headed south to the Scarborough/Woody Point area and searched through the Pied Oystercatchers for a SIPO, but none were found.  We continued south, stopping at Hastings Point for Wandering Tattler and within minutes we  had a very obliging bird in our scope.  This bird was in full summer plumage with heavily barred underparts and looked fantastic.  It fed on the rock platform on the left of the car park just in front of us for half an hour.
