Over many years of subscribing to birding-aus, I've
noticed the following relationship
R = 1/F
Where
R = Relevance
F = Frequency of contribution.
Except
R =
0
When the coward posts messages using
pseudonyms to promote radical agendas and to engage in disgraceful personal
attacks.
On a positive note my favourite contributors are
Edwin Vella and Alan Morris. These guys bird "my patch" and are kind enough to
write up detailed and entertaining reports on their trips so I'm kept informed.
Alan is a meticulous recorder of sightings and has the most amazing knowledge
which he is willing to share on a regular basis.
Other people, such as Lawrie Conole, write up a
similar a standard in Victoria, but this is not as relevant to me. I enjoy the
regular reports from what I consider exotic locations -
Cairns(Lindsay Fisher), Darwin (Niven McCrie) and WA (Frank
O'Connor).
I also take particularly notice when top birders
such as Mike Carter, Dion Hobcroft, Tony Palliser or Pete Milburn have something
to say as invariably I learn something. I'm stunned by the breadth of their
knowledge.
Finally there are the stories which really grab my
attention. The last example was Andrew Stafford's story on the Southport
Pelagic. Andrew has the advantage of being a professional writer and he
used all his skills to convey the excitement of the trip. I almost felt I was
there.
