The Hudwit found by David Harper at Penrice saltfields was again heavily
twitched last evening when some 15 persons were present, however, I am
surprised at the lack of interstate response to this sighting.
I can recall the last previous Hudwit which was at Austin Rds ponds at
Werribee in January 2000 getting a lot of not just Victorian twitchers
frantically emailing and zooming round the country to see it (including
myself). But this present one, which is in near full breeding colours, much
nicer than the drab old non-breeding Werribee one, is getting no air time at
all other than from South Ozzers, and I have only heard of ( and assisted)
twitchers from SA being interested enough to enquire and make a quick trip.
Do you think the breeding colours could be indicative of measles ? Or is it
that once again you Eastern States people consider that what happens in SA
to be of little or no importance. I guess living in the big ugly cities
does have its adverse effects on people's perspectives. The air is much
cleaner in SA folks, just think of the beneficial effects it could have on
your health.
And, I'll bet that most of you out there haven't yet seen a Hudwit.
