Here in SA's Riverland we have a very active Field and Game organization who
have done a wonderful job getting the Loveday Wetlands into good health,
they have erected water level controls and carp excluders and over the past
10 years or so the wetlands have improved, with lots of vegetation appearing
that hadn't been seen for years, but alas they still shoot ducks, in season.
The duck season opened three weeks ago and two men had their $4000
shot-guns confiscated awaiting trial for having one Freckled duck and two
Aust shovelers in their possession.
Banrock Station ( a wine producer, and well worth a visit if you pass this
way) has copied some of Loveday's ideas, and have made a large, controlled
wetland out of an existing back-water of The Murray River, they have two
established walks and of course, no shooting.
