Are we not now aware enough of the total effect of the widespread use of ALL
pesticides (and artificial "fertilizers") to realise that ANY pesticide use
must be extremely carefully controlled and monitored.
The chain of effect from destruction, in treated areas, of micro-fauna,
leading to poisioning, starvation or other effects on the next level "up"
the chain, through to birds, native animals, humans, etc. Protection of and
encouragement to bio-diversity is essential to the health of our entire
planet.
It is depressing to note that the ignorant application of such terrible
agents is still considered in a positive light by some. It appears that the
argument is that "if there is no strong evidence that it harms humans
(directly), then it is alright to be used". So similar to the expression of
"there's a love;y healthy crop of (select from: Wheat, Rice, Canola, Radiata
Pine) over there!". Never mind that it is otherwise a biological desert!
